Modeling the
Consolidated Mines "Copper King" Loading Station - Page 2
|
| As can be seen from
the photographs below, several changes were made to the west side of
the building.
|
|

|
The first involved shifting the tramway entry
to the south (left) in order to facilitate a different entry
angle. The doors were also change to ease
construction on the "back" side of the structure and two window
were eliminated due to the reduced height of the model versus
the prototype.

The picture on the left is
of the west side of the structure before I cut out the upper
floor windows. Initially, I couldn't fine a good picture
of the west wall and as a result, some windows were left off the
2nd/3rd floor. These windows show up in the picture to the
right as does the scale house. I
read somewhere that there were two 75 ton Fairbanks-Morris track
scales, one on each side, but the plans from the Library of
Congress only show one. |

The picture on the left
shows the east wall from the back side. I normally don't
detail an interior wall unless it can be seen from a normal
viewing angle. In this case the interior wall is facing
the normal viewing angle and the interior detailing or lack of
will be readily apparent. I ran out of stained 1x12's as
I was working my down the wall. The upper portion will not
be detailed as it can't bee seen from any angle. It will
be sprayed flat black. |

|
| I like to assemble structures from sub-assemblies. Here is one that will be used
on an interior wall facing one of the loading tracks. It will
include a small loading dock, in front of the two doors, for loading
high-grade concentrate into sealed box cars. There is nothing
in the prototype plans that would validate this feature. On
the other hand, when a viewer looks down the track, into the
interior of the structure, it will add a lot of interest. |
