| Note: All of the captions on these photographs indicate that they were taken at Mallard. After studying them for awhile, I am not convinced that the indicated locations are correct. In the 4th picture, the water tank appears to be on the opposite side of the tracks. The 2nd, 3rd and 5th photos were all taken from aboard the Roman looking towards the apron and the tank is on the left. In the 4th picture, the photo is taken from the apron looking towards the Roman and the water tank is still on the left. If the location is the same, then it should be on the right. I believe that the 2nd, 3rd and 5th photos were taken at Chips...Can anybody confirm? sdepolo@theinsidegateway.com | |

| SN #605 switching cars at Mallard, prepares to load the Ramon Mallard, 1948 For over 41 years, the Sacramento Northern used a car ferry to move freight and passengers across Suisun Bay. Originally at high level draw bridge was planned for this location but the estimated $1.5 million required to build the span never materialized. The 270 foot steel hulled Ramon, with a capcity of up to six passenger cars and 10 freight cars served the railroad up in April of 1954. |
