| Sacramento Northern #653 - Westbound between Baypoint & Concord, CA 1948 William Larkins photo Built by General Electric in 1928. The 653 along with 654 were the last electric locomotives used on the SN working a short section of the railroad around Marysville and Yuba City, California. They were replaced by diesels in 1964. The 653 is currently at the Orange Empire Railway Museum. |

They were quiet, with good visibility, and smooth running at higher speeds. On the downside, they tended to be "slippery" when switching and/or starting heavy trains. |
