Steve's '03 Cobra "Terminator"

2003 Mustang Cobra SVT Coupe.  4.6 Liter, hand built, double over head cam 32 valve supercharged engine with six speed transmission.

Current modifications - Cold air inlet, pulley, tune and Magnaflow exhaust.

Planned modifications - Maximum Motorsports IRS upgrade.

Brief History - The car was purchased on Christmas Eve, 2006.  Before finding this car, totally by accident at a Jeep dealer close-to-home in Bellevue, WA, several others were seriously considered including one in Pittsburg, PA, one in Houston, TX and one in Portland, OR.  Since only 12,162 supercharged Cobra Coupes were built during 2003/04 and only 851 of those were painted Dark Shadow Gray, these cars are relatively hard to find.  Still fewer cars were equipped with chrome wheels (Chrome wheels were the only option available on the '03/04 Cobras).  It took about  8 months to find this one owner relatively unblemished car with 43,000 miles and a clean Carfax Report (No insurance claims and a clean title).

The 2003/04 Cobras are very special vehicles having been massaged by Ford's elite Special Vehicle Team (SVT).  That massaging includes the only fully hand built engine ever put in a contemporary production vehicle by Ford.  The 4.6-liter double overhead cam 32 valve supercharged engine produces 390 plus horsepower and 390 pounds-feet of torque.  The driveline, which includes a six speed transmission, is enhanced to handle the power as are the brakes and suspension components.  The car is a capable performer up to 155 mph at which point the computer puts a stop to any further acceleration.  The current modifications, which include a smaller pulley to increase boost, a custom tune, aftermarket exhaust and and a cold air intake generate about 435 horsepower at the rear wheels.

The story of the creation of the 2003 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra - known internally at Ford as the Terminator - is one of closely-guarded secrets and daunting challenges as a small, elite team struggled to create a car that will long stand as an icon of American muscle. With interviews ranging from company chairman Bill Ford to the assembly line workers of the historic-yet-antiquated Dearborn Assembly Plant, IRON FIST, LEAD FOOT will take you behind the scenes of this breakneck program and bring you face-to-face with the towering presence of an auto industry legend, John Coletti

Seen in the photo here, John Coletti is the very personification of the world of American high performance vehicles. A long career with Ford led to his post as leader of the manufacturer's elite Special Vehicle Team(SVT). Coletti's legacy includes the Ford GT supercar and the subject of this book: the secret development program - code-named "Terminator" - of the final SVT Mustang Cobra, the ever-more-powerful model that served as the team's flagship for more than a decade.
